Real madrid in new york, coming soon
Florentino Pérez, chairman of Spanish construction company ACS and Real Madrid, will build the first soccer stadium in New York City. The home of New York City FC (NYCFC) will have a seating capacity of 25,000 and is scheduled to open in 2027. Construction will be undertaken by Turner Construction Company, an ACS subsidiary, while the design will be carried out by the U.S. firm HOK.
The stadium will be located in the Queens borough of Willets Point industrial area as part of a transformation project that will include 2,500 affordable housing units, parks, a public school, a hotel and a retail area. This project is expected to generate some 16,000 jobs in the area. The total value of the project is estimated to be around US$780 million (€709 million), which will be fully paid for by the soccer club.
The stadium will be designed to offer a variety of services and events throughout the year and will be located in the vicinity of the U.S. Open Tennis Championships and the New York Mets' baseball field. It is scheduled to open after the FIFA World Cup to be held in 2026, where the United States will be one of three hosts along with Canada and Mexico.
Although soccer is still a marginal sport in New York and in the United States, where American soccer is the king of sports, the sport has gained popularity in recent times. The construction of a soccer stadium of this magnitude in New York City is a major bid to further boost the popularity of soccer in the United States.
Turner Construction Company Vice President Charlie Whitney expressed his honor to be part of the team that will build NYCFC's new home. This stadium will undoubtedly elevate the experience for this team and its fans.
